Children Day Message From Hon. Democrat

MY CHILD  ~ BY HON. DEMOCRAT

My child, I have something to discuss with you. Have your seat, and listen to my words. To give birth to a child is not as essential as to take care of the child. Have your seat, and listen to my words.

My mother, why did you want to discuss with me? I understand the pains you passed through while labouring. Hope I have not offended you ma?

My child, you have not offended. I just want to discuss key issues with you. Be a responsible child. Be a good ambassador of this family. Don't fight. Don't instigate trouble, and don't castigate violence. If neighbours complained about you, I will blame nobody but you.

My mother, I have a question for you concerning what you just said. Why do you always put blame on me when I engage in misunderstanding with outsiders? You will never find out whether I am guilty or not - you rather punish me. Oooh I am sad about it.

My child, I am sorry. Don't you know it is when I blame you, that you will see fight, violence, anarchy, calamity as ills of the society. They are not expected from an Omoluabi.

My mother, why? You had never praised me for fighting for my right? You had never given me kudos for even beating people that insult you in your absence.

My child, I am different from those mothers. Mothers who spoil children, and claim they are nurturing them. I am not doing this because of today, but tomorrow.

And my child, I don't want my efforts on you to be an exercise in futility. I don't want your pedigree to disappear like flame of fire. When they invite you to fight, tell them you are not good in that. Because a popular Black American said, "hate cannot drive out hate, only love can do that". Another scholar said, "a day without love is a day without life".

My mother, every morning I collect money from you when I am going to school. I am always thinking about the day I will reward you.

My child, you cannot reward me. You can only take care of me when I grow old. No amount of house you might build, cars you might buy, can quantify what I did. Though, you must not be an ingrate.

Take care of me when I am alive. Celebrating hell and heaven after my death is not for me. Take care of family, community, and Nigeria at large to the best of your capacity.

My mother, you are inexplicably relevant. Your contributions can never be subdued with any understatement. I cherish you.

My child, you cherish me? I appreciate! A Nigerian lady writer said in one of her books, "if you don't have children, longing for them will kill you. If you have them, caring for them will kill you".

If I cannot die for you, who will I die for? Mothers who cherish materialistic wealth than their children are stupid. It is because of you I accumulate wealth. You are the reasons why I smile when there is nobody beside me. I am not insane. I am smiling at what God has blessed me with.

Behave responsibly. Accommodate people. Don't discriminate. Don't live in isolation. Socialise with people. Don't make enemies, but look at your back when walking. And all that glitters is not gold.

My mother, I love you. Once again, I cherish you.

My child, happy children's day.
