Sultan Beach Got Cleaned By Leo Clubs

Covering more than 70 percent of our planet, ocean remains remains one of the most expensive mysterious and diverse places on earth. Unfortunately, it is being threatened by pollution from people on land and from natural causes. Marine life is dying, and as aresult the whole oceanic ecosystem is threatened simply by various sources of pollution,. If we are to preserve ocean and its natural beauty, drastic measures have to be taken to combat this pollution and keep what we hold most dear.
The majority of the garbage that enters the ocean each year is plastic. That’s because unlike other trash, the single use grocery bags, water bottles, drinking straws and yoghurt containers, among eight million metric tons of the plastic items were toss (instead of recycle), wont biodegrade. Instead, they can persist in the environment for a millennium, polluting our beaches, entangling marine life, and getting ingested by fish and seabirds.
In line with the Sustainable Development Goals of ensuring a clean and safe beach, Platinum Leo Club alongside other Leo clubs in large numbers  participated in a cleanup project tagged ‘CLEANER BEACH’ organized by Leo District 404B1 geared to tackle this filthy menance in Sultan Beach  located in Badagry, Lagos State. Loaded with waste bins, parkers and brooms, Leos stormed the bank of the beach to pick up all plastics, nylons and other dirt’s on the bank of the beach.
At the end of the exercise, lots of waste was accumulated and disposed properly. The waste bins used for the cleanup was donated to the management of the beach.  The sanitation exercise lasted for over an hour.
Attached to this report are pictures taken from the site of the project.
