Until his sudden departure to glory on Sunday, 26th July, 1959, Apostle Joseph Ayo Babalola showed no sign of illness. A rare “dwarf planet” 18 times smaller than Earth, has been discovered in the distant Solar System on an eccentric orbit far beyond Neptune, astronomers said Tuesday. Dubbed RR245, the icy world is currently about 9.7 billion kilometres (six billion miles) from the Sun — 65 times further than Earth, said astronomer Jean- Marc Petit of France’s CNRS research institute. “But its orbit is very elliptical, and it will be 19 billion km at its furthest point” from our star,” he told AFP. At the closest approach on its 700-year orbit, the planet will pass the Sun at a distance of some five billion km. Dwarf planets fall into a six-year-old category of celestial bodies. Point system not criteria for admission, says JAMB. The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) says the point system copied from its website as criteria for admission into tertiary institutions in the country and currently circulating is a mere illustration. The board’s Head, Media and Information, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, made this known in statement on Sunday. Quoting the News Agency of Nigeria, the board said on the contrary, the Federal Government had approved the re-enforcement of admission guidelines as recognised by law. According to the statement, the admission of candidates into tertiary institutions will be based purely on three pillars: merit, catchment and educationally-less developed states.
